This El Dorado 21 year old rum, made by Demerara Distillers from Guyana (South America) is a particularly beautiful rum with superior quality. A blend of carefully selected rums of at least 21 years old up to 25 years old. The basis of this rum is the rum from the only operational Wooden Continuous Coffee Still in the world, supplemented with rum from the other unique stills that Demerara is rich in.

Tasting notes:
Nose: Mocha, toffee, tobacco and dark spices.
Taste: Velvety soft and full of tropical fruits, coffee, leather and rich toffee.
Finish: Nutty and smoky.

The story of rum in Guyana starts in 1640 with the introduction of sugar cane by Dutch immigrants. The foundation for the production of Demerara Rum was laid as early as 1670. Over a century later there were over 300 different distilleries, each producing its own unique rum with its own rum marque identifying the origin of the rum. When in the 19th century there was an unexpected fall in the price of sugar combined with the introduction of the tax system this resulted in a huge consolidation of the sugar industry. It was no longer economically viable to keep all the sugar estates in operation. This resulted in only nine distilleries remaining by 1942. In 1999 there was a final merger of the remaining sugar refineries and distilleries and all the various distilling stills, equipment and expertise were transferred to Demerara Distillers Limited; the only remaining active distillery at Diamond, on the East Bank of the Demerara River.

The smooth and flavoursome El Dorado rums produced at the Demerara distillery have represented over 300 years of Caribbean rum crafting, and are known worldwide for their unique identity. Among other things, they use an original and very unique wooden distillation column, which has been working on sugar plantations since 1832. Today, it is located at the Demerara Distillery. The oak barrels are stored here in the warehouses for decades, to allow both time and the unique Demerara climate to do their work. When they are perfectly matured, the final bit of magic comes into play: the blending. This is done with passion and art by master blender Sharon Sue-Hang-Baksh and her team, maintaining 300 years of tradition. All the complex elements of the blend are mixed together until the ultimate aromas and flavours have been created.
