The Lambis Scorpius belongs to the Strombidae family, known for its elongated morphology and spectacular pointed extensions, which resemble the legs of a scorpion, giving it its common name. This shell is characterized by six digitiform projections on the sides and one more pronounced at the end, typical of the Lambis genus.
The Yellow variety, extremely rare, features a deep yellow coloration with brownish shades and an inner peristome with violet or orange hues. This color results from specific environmental and genetic conditions, making it a special and highly sought-after variant among collectors.
Lambis Scorpius is found in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, particularly in the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Madagascar, and the northern coast of Australia. It inhabits sandy seabeds and coral reef areas up to approximately 20 meters deep, where it camouflages itself thanks to its coloration and protrusions.
This species is an herbivorous and detritivorous mollusk, feeding mainly on algae and organic matter found in marine sediments. Unlike other shells, Lambis Scorpius moves by hopping, using its muscular foot in a movement similar to that of Strombus shells.
Rarity of the yellow coloration, distinguishing it from the more common brown or reddish varieties.
