The never-ending discovery of Meteorites, brought to you by {name}

Im Jahre 1576 entdeckten die spanischen Konquistadoren nach Hinweisen von Indianern verstreute Bruchstücke eines Eisenmeteoriten auf einer weiten Ebene in Argentinien. Da sie kein Gold oder Silber fanden, geriet die Fundstelle zunächst in Vergessenheit.

Erst viel später entdeckten Forscher, dass dieses Eisen einen meteoritischen Ursprung hat. Der Meteorit wurde nach seinem Fundort benannt „Campo del Cielo“, was übersetzt „Feld des Himmels“ bedeutet.

Mittlerweile weiß man, dass sich dort der Einschlag eines großen Eisenmeteoriten vor ca. 5.000 Jahren ereignete. Bislang wurden mehr als 100 Tonnen dieses Materials geborgen.
