Der Autor bzw. Herausgeber des Werkes ist Frater Carolus Moreau, ein Augustinermönch des Ordens der Eremiten, aus der Gemeinschaft von Bourges (Communiti. Bituricens.), die dem Kloster der Königin Margarete in den Vororten von St. Germain in Paris angehörte.

Bei dieser Ausgabe handelt es sich um eine systematische, alphabetisch geordnete Zusammenstellung der Schriften und Gedanken des frühchristlichen Autors Tertullian.

Das Buch wurde 1658 in Paris von den Druckern Jacobum Dallin und Thomam Ioly veröffentlicht.

Tertullian (ca. 160–225 n. Chr.) war ein bedeutender christlicher Theologe und Schriftsteller der frühen Kirche. Er verfasste zahlreiche Werke in lateinischer Sprache, in denen er sich mit apologetischen, dogmatischen und moralischen Themen befasste. Besonders bekannt ist er für die Einführung des Begriffs Trinitas (Dreifaltigkeit) und seine scharfen Auseinandersetzungen mit Häresien. Sein Einfluss auf die lateinische Theologie war enorm, auch wenn er sich später der montanistischen Bewegung anschloss, die von der orthodoxen Kirche abgelehnt wurde.

Es handelt sich um den ersten, dreiteiligen Band einer aus drei Bänden bestehenden Ausgabe.
