Antique Key-Wound Pocket Watch, Biedermeier Era, 800 Silver Case, Original Hair Chain, Working, ca. 1830s

Country of origin: Most likely Germany or Switzerland  
Period: Biedermeier era (circa 1815–1848)  
Material: 800 silver case, genuine braided hair chain with gilt heart fittings  
Condition: Working mechanical movement – with winding key, good antique condition

This is a rare and charming early 19th-century key-winding pocket watch, beautifully preserved and fully functional. It features a hand-wound cylinder movement marked "Cylindre, Quatre trous" (four jewels) and is accompanied by its winding key.

The dial is aged but complete, with Roman numerals and a red 24-hour scale. A small subdial displays seconds at 6 o'clock. The hands are original.

The outer case, made of solid 800 silver, is richly engine-turned and decorated with an oval engraving of a town hall or church building, a typical motif of the time. The inside of the case bears the name "Th. Sillig", likely the original owner or maker.

Attached is a 35 cm-long original Biedermeier hair chain, intricately woven from genuine hair – a sentimental custom of the era, often associated with mourning or love tokens. The chain is fitted with gilt heart-shaped mounts and clasps.
