Le cheval a toujours été au centre de l'oeuvre onirique de Chagall, c'est un animal qui est presque toujours présent dans les tableaux du maitre russe. C'est donc naturellement que Manuel Bruker a demandé au peintre d'illustrer cette petite nouvelle de Claire Goll.
Chagall et Goll se lieront d'amitié et Chagall dessinera la tombe d'Yvan et Claire Goll après la mort de cette dernière en 1977.

Ouvrage réalisé sur les presses de l'imp.  Daragnès. Tiré à 200 exemplaires, celui-ci (n°155), un des 150 sur vélin de Rives 

Ouvrage en  feuilles, sous couverture illustrée en couleurs, chemise rose illustrée, lacs. 
Excellente condition.
