The NAD 3240 PE, for example, consists of the 2240 PE power amplifier and a preamplifier very similar to the 1240. It costs only slightly more than other "average power amplifiers," but its simple exterior conceals a drive unit of advanced design.  Its high-current output stage delivers full output power for speakers of any impedance (even at 2 ohms) and produces peak currents up to 25 amps for precise dynamic control of speaker cone movements.

The 3240 PE is conservatively rated at 40 watts of continuous power per channel into either 8 or 4 ohms, but its "Power Envelope" design offers extraordinary reserves of impulse power for music. With +6 dB of dynamic range, the 3240 PE delivers over 160 watts/channel at 8 ohms (200 watts/channel at 4 or 2 ohms) of clear, clean power for the high-level peaks in today's recordings, which span all audible frequencies.
