Rare and elegant rectangular Japanese lacquered wooden box, decorated with a sumptuous maki-e design depicting blooming wisteria. The domed lid, finely decorated with gold and metal powder on a shaded brown background, features winding and graceful branches, typical of the climbing plant symbolizing enduring love and delicacy in Japanese art.
The foliage and floral clusters are depicted with a remarkable sense of detail, in a naturalistic style that reflects the refined aesthetics of the Meiji period. The pattern continues on the sides, framing a small, discreet, and functional black button closure.
The interior of the box is decorated with an exquisite nashiji design (gold powder on a black lacquered background), revealing the refinement of the interior finishes typical of luxury objects.
