Rare 1.5-Liter Magnum Bottle of J. Danflou Vieux Calvados from the 1960s to 1970s – A Piece of French Distilling History
For sale is an exceptional collectible: A 1.5-liter magnum bottle of J. Danflou Vieux Calvados, presumably from the late 1960s to 1970s. The bottle features the embossed inscription "Federal Law Forbids Sale or Re-Use of This Bottle," a mark mandatory in the USA between 1935 and 1964 [but it often took longer for the moulds to be replaced - ES]. Additionally, the base of the bottle is marked with "Modele Déposé," indicating a registered and protected design typical for premium French bottlings from this era.

Very likely, the bottle was produced by the renowned glass manufacturer Saint-Gobain Desjonquères (SGD), a leading glass producer in France. SGD was known for high-quality glass production in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly for the American market. The distinct SG symbol on the bottle base strongly suggests this origin.

J. Danflou, a renowned Paris-based producer, has been crafting fine eaux-de-vie and Calvados since the 1920s. The label has some minor damage, but the wax seal remains intact, indicating an untouched original bottling.
