Crab - Fossil carapace - Charybdis sp.

Complete spiny Fossil Crab Charybdis from the Miocene of Bodjong formation, Java, Indonesia. This specimen is very beautiful, on its hard matrix, showing 5 complete legs and spiny claws. Totally natural on its matrix, not glued. Specimen is very hard, beautifully fossilized. Specimens that present legs are very uncommon for many reasons: Once the specimen dies, it disarticulates. The second reason is that local collectors, when extracting them from the matrix, ruin them regardless of the presence of the legs. In this specimen the legs are present, many legs are complete up to the nail. "Post Mortem" the legs contract under the claws, this is the natural way all the fossil crabs are found. The matrix has been worked to show as more as possible of the specimen. Crab is 9 cm large from leg to leg. Carapace is 5,5 cm wide. Both Claws preserving all the spines on merus and prodopus. . A painstaking work of many days was necessary to expose this specimen and preserve all those tiny details on the claws and on legs. No restored, 100% natural. 100% original fossil. Rare museum specimen.
