Ancient Egypt, Old Kingdom, banded alabaster cosmetic jar with cylindrical body, slightly rounded bottom and everted broad rim. 

Diameter: ± 62,4 mm
Height: ± 50 mm

Good solid condition, intact. Signs of wear and various chips from the rim, consistent with an ancient artefact.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).

This jar would have stored an ointment or a semi-liquid product that served as a cosmetic for protection of the skin or for funerary rituals. 

The alabaster has been carefully crafted by highly skilled Egyptian artisans. Its warm colour, matte sheen and durability was highly regarded by the ancient Egyptians. The natural properties of the banded alabaster are used to highlight the subtle beauty of this material, making it a prized collector's item.
