Gietijzeren hondje ,,Nipper”

De afmeting van het beeldje is c.a. Hoog 12 cm, breed 8.5 cm en lengte 22.5 cm.

Het beeldje weegt 1.6 kg.

His Master's Voice is bekend vanwege het opvallende beeldmerk: Nipper het witte hondje , dat zijn oren bij een luidspreker van een ouderwetse grammophone houdt. Volgens de overlevering luisterde hij op dat moment naar de stem van zijn baasje - "His master's voice", dus.

Het beeldmerk is eind 19e eeuw ontworpen door de Britse kunstenaar Francis Barraud. Het werd in 1899 aangekocht door The Grammophone Company in Groot-Brittannië, de voorloper van het huidige EMI, maar het beeldmerk werd pas tien jaar later gebruikt op de platenlabels van de platenmaatschappij.

Het beeldmerk van het hondje en de grammophone werd zo populair, dat de platen van The Grammophone Company al snel werden uitgebracht onder de naam His Master's Voice, hoewel dit niet de officiële naam van het bedrijf was.
