This clock was handcrafted by my grandfather, who was a blacksmith in the coastal town of Piran from the 1950s to the 1990s. Faithful to his craft, he avoided welding and instead shaped and joined the metal using classical blacksmithing techniques such as forging, riveting, and cold working.

The design of the cat appears to be inspired by a piece by Gunnar Ander for Ystad Metall. It’s possible that my grandfather either replicated the design or salvaged the frame, as he often repurposed materials he came across. However, the central plate—featuring the clock and copper rivets—is entirely his work and bears his personal maker’s stamp as proof of authenticity.

The clock is fully functional and powered by a 1.5V C-type (LR14) battery (not included). The movement is marked “eL 990,” which, based on research, likely refers to Eurochron—a brand name used before the reunification of Germany.
