Kristallen karaf – zwaar geslepen kristal met groot oor, Nederland ca. 1900

Een indrukwekkend stuk glaskunst uit het fin de siècle: deze kristallen karaf, vervaardigd in Nederland rond 1900, combineert elegantie met praktische robuustheid. Een object dat zowel dienst deed aan tafel als een sierstuk vormde op het buffet – en dat tot op de dag van vandaag weet te imponeren.

De karaf is gemaakt van dik, helder kristal en rijkelijk voorzien van een diep slijppatroon, met florale en geometrische motieven die het licht in schitterende facetten vangen. De vorm is klassiek, met een brede basis, slanke hals en een opvallend groot kristallen oor – niet alleen een functioneel handvat, maar ook een markant ontwerpelement.

Het geheel voelt zwaar en degelijk aan – typisch voor kwaliteitsglaswerk uit deze periode, toen zowel esthetiek als duurzaamheid hoog in het vaandel stonden. De karaf is geschikt voor wijn, water of als pronkstuk in een vitrine of op een antieke tafel.
