Fossil - Fossil matrix - Mixosaurus - 52 cm - 19 cm
The skull of the Mixosaurus is a kind of ichthyosaur. This piece is cleaned with sandblasting technology, so the skull can appear more three-dimensional, and many parts can be preserved, which like teeth are also very three-dimensional, lifelike feeling.
This skull is dorsal-up, interestingly, the most obvious sclerotic ring of the ichthyosaur's eyes is pressed on both sides.
The size of the skull is 51 cm. Matrix is about 52*19*3 cm.
Mixosaurus was a small to medium-sized ichthyosaur, not growing more than 2 metres (6.6 ft) in total length with small species not growing more than 1 metre (3.3 ft). It possessed a long tail with a low fin, suggesting it could have been a slow swimmer, but also possessed a dorsal fin for stability in the water. The paddle-like limbs were made up of five toes each, unlike the three toes found in later Ichthyosaurs.
