Paris: J. Hetzel, 1845-1846. 2 volumes, xxxii, 380pp + lxxx, 364pp. 24.5cm x 17cm. First edition. Half leather binding with gilt decorated spine. Numerous text vignettes and full-page woodcut illustrations. The texts, made up of stories and dialogues with Parisian subjects, are by well-known writers including Balzac, Gautier, de Musset, and Georges Sand.
Rubbing and wear to the boards and spine. Handwriting in endpapers in both volumes. Browning and spotting, especially in the first and last pages and endpapers of each volume. Tear on top of pages v-viii in the first volume. Plates between pages 130/131 in the second volume are loose. The text is bright and clean, and the illustrations are clear and in great condition. Overall, a copy in fair to good condition.
