A clean, well preserved bi-folio from a 16th Century Qur'an from the Ottoman. The folio contains the Surah Chapter heading and the first 8 verses of Chapter 9, Al-Tawbah (Repentance), together with the final verse of the preceding Chapter.  The verses concern a declaration of immunity from Allah and His Messenger towards polytheists with whom they had treaties. This immunity, however, is not absolute. It allows polytheists to travel freely for four months, but it also outlines the conditions under which this immunity ends, along with consequences for violating the terms of the treaty. 

The header is written in gold Thuluth script, with the remainder of the manuscript written in evenly spaced naskhi in black ink, with the verses marked by simple gold aya containing a blue centre dot and four equally spaced radial markings. A thick gold frame surrounds the whole, with a finer blue outer frame line completing the framing. There are a small number of devotional markings in red within the script.
