Description from the seller
Albert Einstein - The Principle of Relativity - 1923, First English edition, first printing.
Original Papers by A. Einstein and H. Minkowski translated into English by M. N. Saha and S. N. Bose
The 11 papers that forged the general and special theories of relativity: seven papers by Einstein, plus two papers by Lorentz and one each by Minkowski and Weyl.
Albert Einstein’s Principle of Relativity, established through his 1905 special and 1915 general theories, fundamentally redefined physics by stating that physical laws are the same for all inertial observers, with a constant speed of light. It introduced the concept of four-dimensional spacetime, replacing traditional Newtonian gravity with the curvature of spacetime caused by massive objects.
It includes:
1) Lorentz, Michelson's interference experiment from his Leyden memoir, (1895).
2) Lorentz, Electromagnetic phenomena, a reprint of Lorentz paper, (1904).
3) Einstein, fundamental papers on the restricted theory of relativity, (1905).
4) Einstein, does the inertia of a body depend upon its energy content?,(1905).
5) Minkowski, Space and Time, fig.1-4, (1908).
6) Einstein, the influence of gravitation on the propagation of light, fig.5-7 (1911).
7) Einstein, the foundation of the general theory of relativity, fig.8 (1916).
8) Einstein, Hamilton's principle and the general theory of relativity, (1916).
9) Einstein, cosmological considerations and the gravitational field, (1917).
10) Einstein, gravitational fields and the structure of matter, (1919);
11) Weyl, gravitation and electricity, (1918)
