Gesneden houten ceremonieel schild uit Congo van de Kuba volkeren.

Het schild heeft een opvallende vierkante vorm met afgeronde hoeken en is rijk versierd met een geometrisch patroon in zwart, roodbruin en wit pigment. 
Centraal in het paneel bevindt zich een gestileerd gezicht in reliëf, dat doet denken aan traditionele Kuba-maskers.

Aan de achterzijde is een handgreep uitgesneden uit het hout, wat bevestigt dat het object bedoeld was om vast te houden – waarschijnlijk tijdens rituelen, optochten of dansceremonies. 
Het gaat hierbij om een ceremoniële of symbolische functie, niet om een gevechtswapen.

Conditie
Goede staat met sporen van ouderdom, gebruik en slijtage aan randen en verf. Authentiek patina.
