Collector’s item: rare Asterix chess set "Mayfair" in original box.

The Mayfair Asterix chess set is published in a limited edition and consists of 32 very beautiful, very detailed, Tin chess pieces that depict the original characters from the Asterix and Obelix strips from writer René Goscinny and the famous drawing artist Albert Uderzo. All tin sculptures are designed by the famous tin artist Stuart Harris on the basis of the original drawings from Albert Uderzo. Each chess piece is hand made out of high-quality precious tin.

In 1993 Mayfair edition launched the Asterix chess set in which one chess piece per month could be bought for about €28,50. it took thus more than 2.5 years to complete the set. Together with the last chess pieces, the collector received the marble board and the storage cassette in which the pieces can be stored. The total acquisition value was +€900.--

Worldwide there are only a very few complete sets. This is one of them.

The original box (white cardboard) has a tear on the top side and some stains. But the marble chessboard and the figurines (chess pieces) are in mint condition. They have never been displayed ore used and were only taken out of the packaging for the purpose of taking the photos.

Dimensions of the board are 35 cm x 35 cm. The size of the chess pieces is between 4.5 and 7.5 cm.
