This is a first edition of Carotid Cornucopius, published in 1964 by Macdonald Publishers, and one of the final poetry collections from Sydney Goodsir Smith (1915–1975), a central figure in the mid-20th-century Scottish Literary Renaissance. Smith, known for his bold use of Scots, linguistic inventiveness, and deeply textured verse, brings together wit, irreverence, and an intimate engagement with history and identity in this collection. Carotid Cornucopius showcases his playful but poignant poetic range—blending satire, classical allusion, and contemporary commentary in a style unmistakably his own.

The dust jacket is present but shows light wear, primarily along the edges and corners. The jacket remains intact and retains its original design, a vivid period example of 1960s Scottish publishing aesthetics. The cover beneath the jacket shows wear. Internally, the pages are in very good condition. The binding remains sound. 

This is a notable volume in Smith’s bibliography, published just over a decade before his death. As both a poet and dramatist, he played a vital role in re-establishing the Scots language as a medium for serious literature in the 20th century. Carotid Cornucopius reflects his mature voice—acerbic, lyrical, and unafraid of stylistic experimentation.
