Batch 16
This Quadrupel Oak Aged has a deep bronze colour with a head like amber. The aroma is dominated by a mixture of wood and honey. This is followed by wine-like aromas, after which a port/sherry-like aroma lingers. The taste is very soft and full. For a Quadrupel, this batch is quite dry and nicely rounded off by the long maturation on oak and acacia barriques. The aging time of 2 years is sufficient, although this batch is guaranteed to be drinkable for years to come due to its full flavour if stored properly. In addition to the influence of red wine and brandy barrels, this Oak Aged also has Oloroso influences. The hops are hardly present anymore, but the tannins of wood and wine provide a pleasant bitterness.

This Oak Aged has a copper brown colour and the aroma is a mixture of muscatel aromas and Quadrupel. In addition to sweet honey, flower meadow with almond and caramel, the nose also recognises the aroma of muscatel wine and of course the aroma of oak. This Quadrupel is also aged in barriques, which are almost all roasted on the inside. Of all the batches released so far, this batch has the most smoked and full flavour.

The influence of Oloroso and Brandy barrels has a not unimportant side effect. Ultimately, the complex flavour is full-bodied, soft and balanced. The aftertaste is that of wood tannins, smoke, almond, date and caramel, with the caramel providing a somewhat bittersweet aftertaste of this batch.

This Oak Aged Batch 19 is matured in barrels of Banyuls, a fortified French dessert wine from Roussillon, also called a Vin Doux Naturel. The smell and taste of Banyuls are reminiscent of plum compote and cocoa. This smell and taste are also clearly found in this batch, in addition to flower honey and smoked oak. The taste of La Trappe Quadrupel remains in the foreground. The mouthfeel of alcohol remains present and complements the complex and sweet taste well. The bitterness is maintained due to the presence of wood tannins. The carbonic acid gives a slight tingling on the tongue and the smoky taste lingers in the throat for a while.

This occurs when one user's bid is exactly the same as an automatic (maximum) bid placed by another user earlier. Since the auto-bid was placed first, this takes preference.
