“Pikachu no Bushidō” (2025) – A striking triptych where the beloved Pokémon icon Pikachu is reimagined as a noble samurai, standing amid dramatic cherry blossom landscapes and mountainous backdrops. This unique series blends Edo-period aesthetics with playful modern myth, rendered in high-contrast monochrome.

Each panel presents a distinct chapter in Pikachu’s warrior journey:

① “Samurai Stillness” –  Pikachu perches beneath a sakura tree, armor glinting beneath moonlight, with soft petals falling around him. The text “ぴかぴか” (pika pika) glows like a whispered name in the stillness.

② “Sakura Pikachu Quest” – In full regalia, Pikachu stands ready with katana drawn beneath towering peaks and flowing rivers—an homage to feudal Japan’s cinematic past.

③ “Shogun of the Sakura”  – A proud and peaceful Pikachu gazes outward, framed by plum blossoms and clad in full kabuto helm, radiating both innocence and strength.

These works are hand-finished with spray paint and pastel crayons atop ink-style printed foundations, giving each piece a uniquely textured depth. Æ’s fusion of kawaii pop culture and bushidō discipline delivers a collectible tribute to the timeless appeal of Pokémon through a fine-art lens.

About the Artist:

Æ, a Barcelona-based artist and designer, earned degrees in Digital Design and Multimedia Technologies (2004) and East Asian Studies. Fascinated by digital mediums from an early age, Æ developed a distinct aesthetic influenced by minimalism, conceptual art, and skateboard graphics.

His works are held in private collections across over 30 countries, including The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Æ’s pieces have also been acquired by prestigious public collections, such as the Oriental Art Collection at the Zaragoza Museum (2024), which houses Spain’s most significant Eastern art archive.

Æ’s art is renowned for its minimalist approach, using a restrained palette and high-contrast imagery to evoke powerful emotions and explore themes like isolation, duality, and timelessness. His signature style incorporates stark contrasts, East Asian symbols, and iconic cultural imagery, compelling viewers to confront profound ideas with minimal visuals.
