A fine specimen of an optometer by Maurice Perrin and Mascart from Paris.
First introduced around 1875.
The optometer by Perrin & Mascart is among the most technically advanced of the 19th century. It is in good condition.
The optometer consists of a lens with double refraction of calcium fluoride, which provides double readings and offers greater accuracy in determining the distance between the markings.
The optometer was a device that was used for measuring the necessary spherical and/or cylindrical corrections that had to be prescribed for eyeglasses, from the middle of the 18th century until about 1922, when modern instruments were developed.
