Karaf van geslepen kristal met massief zilveren voet en montuur (.833) – Nederland, circa 1880

Een toonbeeld van 19e-eeuws vakmanschap: deze karaf uit circa 1880 is vervaardigd van fijn geslepen kristal en voorzien van een rijk uitgevoerde voet en montuur in massief zilver (.833) – een geliefde combinatie in de betere huishoudens van de laat-Victoriaanse periode.

De karaf is met de hand geslepen in een klassiek facetpatroon dat het licht op verfijnde wijze breekt. De slanke hals loopt over in een robuust lichaam, rustend op een zwaar zilveren voet die zowel sierlijk als stabiel is.

Zilverwerk met een gehalte van .833 werd in Nederland veel toegepast in de 19e eeuw. De kwaliteit van het werk en de combinatie met helder kristal geven deze karaf een luxe uitstraling die tot op de dag van vandaag indruk maakt. Oorspronkelijk bedoeld voor wijn of likeur, maar vandaag net zo goed een decoratief pronkstuk.

Het object verkeert in goede staat met minimale gebruikssporen, passend bij de leeftijd. Een stijlvol erfstuk voor verzamelaars van antiek glaswerk, zilveren tafelgoed of decoratieve objecten uit de Nederlandse belle époque.
