De  Remington 12 typemachine werd vanaf 1922 vervaardigd in de staat New York. 
Deze machine werd gebruikt op een belastingkantoor in Eindhoven.
Mijn vader kocht dit apparaat zodat wij onze scripties en proefschriften konden vervaardigen. Zonder artifical intelligence overigens. De computer was nog niet uitgevonden in de zestiger jaren. Misschien ook nog niet bedacht. In ieder geval niet voor huiselijk gebruik.
Bij het restaureren van deze machine ontdekte ik dat de techniek uit begin twintigste eeuw bewonderingswaardig geniaal was en nog is.
Bijzonder is ook dat de machine na een onderhoudsbeurt gewoon werkt zoals honderd jaar geleden. Zo hier en daar een druppeltje naaimachine 
deed wonderen. Kom daar maar eens mee bij een computer. Over honderd jaar?
Bij het ontruimen van mijn huis kwam ik de oude typevriend weer tegen. 
Weggooien van zo'n wonderlijk apparaat zou een groot verlies zijn. Hier is sprake van een kostbaar museumstuk.
Mijn wens is dat deze Remington blijft bestaan. Hij (of zij?) functioneert nog prima. Maar mijn leeftijd is dusdanig dat ik afscheid van onze Remington moet nemen.
