His fantastical works, such as Otmar Alt's Baby Elephant, often appear cheerful and playful at first glance, but upon closer inspection they reveal deep and complex stories that transport the viewer to another world.

Othmar Alt (born July 17, 1940 in Wernigerode) is a German painter, graphic artist, designer and sculptor. He embodies the principle: "Art that needs to be explained is boring". His works are characterized by a willingness to experiment and bright colors.

For over 60 years, Othmar Alt has been one of the most important contemporary artists in Germany, whose original art has found many admirers far beyond Germany’s borders. His vibrant and inventive work reached its peak in the 1980s and 1990s. Since then, Othmar Alt has become an integral part of the German art scene.

He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit and the German Freemasons' Cultural Prize for his lifetime achievement. He also founded the Otmar Alt Foundation to promote young artists and preserve works of art.
