To commemorate the 35th anniversary of Apollo 15, OMEGA launched the Speedmaster Apollo XV 35th Anniversary Ref. 3366.51.00, a remarkable timepiece limited to just 1,971 pieces. This watch celebrates a historic mission that marked several significant milestones in space exploration, including the first use of the Lunar Rover Vehicle (LRV). Apollo 15 was a mission of exploration and discovery. The astronauts covered an impressive 27.9 kilometers on the lunar surface in the Lunar Rover Vehicle and returned with numerous geological samples, including the famed "Genesis Rock," a piece of ancient lunar crust that provided invaluable insights into the moon's history. The mission itself was the second-longest of all the Apollo missions, lasting 12 days, 17 hours, and 12 minutes. This sense of endurance and achievement is encapsulated in the design and craftsmanship of the Speedmaster Apollo XV. Further commemorating the mission, the Apollo 15 mission badge is also featured on the special silver-grey box that houses the watch, making it a complete tribute to one of NASA's most groundbreaking lunar missions. The Speedmaster Apollo XV is distinguished by its elegant design and unique details. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this special edition Speedmaster features a striking red gold bezel, complemented by pushers and a crown also fashioned from luxurious 18-carat red gold. This warm, lustrous tone continues through the watch's indices, hands, and sub-dial rings, all beautifully contrasted against a matte black dial, creating a captivating blend of elegance and functionality. The sapphire crystal caseback is etched with the Apollo 15 mission patch, which beautifully depicts three birds representing the three astronauts who journeyed to the moon. Driving this exceptional timepiece is the OMEGA calibre 1861.The calibre 1861 offers improved performance and durability thanks to its corrosion-resistant rhodium plating, ensuring that the watch is as robust as it is beautiful.
