Alejandro Vico (XX) - David

ABOUT THE ARTWORK DAVID belongs to the MYOPIA series. This series could be described as biographical, as the artist has suffered from this condition since childhood. The main idea is for the viewer to see in the same way the artist sees the world. ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE Gunpowder and graphite on canvas CREATIVE PROCESS First, the artist sketches the outline of the work on a piece of fabric. Then, this sketch is covered with a trail of gunpowder, which is subsequently set alight. The burns on the fabric and the masks created on it result in a unique work in which chance and the poetry of fire come into play. Even if you try to make the same piece twice, the result will always be different, which gives it a unique, unrepeatable character. On the other hand, it is a mutable, changing material. With gunpowder, there is no limit, no end; something new always happens, there is always an ‘accident’. And that is where its charm lies, in the fact that gunpowder will have the last word when it comes to creating a painting. ABOUT THE ARTIST Alejandro Vico is an Spanish artist originally from Grnada. He has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Granada and a Master's degree in Drawing: Creation, Production and Dissemination. He has been working with gunpowder as an artistic material for 10 years. His works have been exhibited in various art centers and galleries accross Spain in the last decade.
