Historical Inspiration: The "1605" in its name commemorates the year when Marshal François Hannibal d'Estrées allegedly gave the Carthusian Fathers a mysterious manuscript containing the formula for an "Elixir of Long Life." This manuscript is considered the origin of the Chartreuse liqueurs.

Recipe & Ingredients: Like other Chartreuse liqueurs, its exact recipe remains a closely guarded secret known only to a few monks. However, it's known to be made from a blend of 130 medicinal and aromatic plants, flowers, roots, barks, and berries macerated in high-quality alcohol and then distilled.

Alcohol Content: It is typically quite potent, with an alcohol by volume (ABV) often around 56% vol.

Flavor Profile: It is described as very powerful, complex, and racy, with notes of herbs, spices, sometimes hints of flowers, honey, and a balance between sweetness and bitterness. It's known for its exceptional aromatic power.

Serving Suggestions: It's often enjoyed as a digestif, served chilled (between 10 and 12°C) or on ice. It can also be used in cooking to add aromatic depth. Historically, the "Elixir" concept implies it could be used as a tonic or even for medicinal purposes (though today it's primarily a liqueur).
