Seiko 6139-6002 “Pogue” – A Space-Age Chronograph Icon
The Seiko 6139-6002, affectionately known as the “Pogue,” is a vintage chronograph that blends bold design with historic significance. Released in the early 1970s, it’s part of the pioneering Seiko 6139 series—one of the world’s first automatic chronographs.
What sets the 6002 apart is its vibrant sunburst yellow dial, framed by a red and blue Pepsi bezel that screams 1970s flair. The case is a robust 41mm stainless steel cushion shape, giving it a sporty yet retro presence on the wrist. Inside ticks the Seiko Caliber 6139, an automatic movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch—technically impressive even by today’s standards.
But the real legend? This watch earned its nickname from Colonel William Pogue, who wore a 6139-6002 during the 1973 NASA Skylab 4 mission, making it the first automatic chronograph in space. Significantly, this was the first automatic chronograph in space and in case you were wondering, it performed flawlessly.
Key features:
• Yellow dial with day-date complication
• 30-minute chronograph subdial
• Bi-color tachymeter bezel
• Automatic movement with no manual winding
• English/Arabic or Farsi day wheel
Whether you're a space enthusiast, a vintage watch lover, or a Seiko devotee, the 6139-6002 Pogue is a time capsule of innovation, style, and cosmic adventure.
