Statuette africaine de fécondité, de conception très schématisée, dont l'aspect de la tête varie selon les régions. Elle évoque un esprit avec lequel une relation s'établit. Le buste tubulaire, légèrement renflé au niveau de l'abdomen, est doté d'une poitrine plate. La tête anguleuse, stylisée, évoque la coiffure féminine en cimier, les incisions parallèles les scarifications et les tresses de l'ethnie. Belle patine brune hétérogène, lustrée, abrasée localement. Fendillements minimes.

L'utilisation de poupées, par les jeunes femmes africaines, ne se fait pas exclusivement au sein du contexte initiatique. Lorsque la menstruation fait son apparition, la jeune fille est considérée comme une mère potentielle. Chez de nombreuses ethnies, la recherche de la fécondité se fait alors au moyen de rites intitiatiques. Des figures en bois seront ensuite sculptées, certaines reflétant les deux genres, revêtues dans bien des cas de perles et d'habits. Au cours de la période de réclusion, la poupée, qui devient un enfant qui demande à être nourri, lavé et oint au quotidien, devient le seul compagnon de la jeune fille. Après l'initiation, elles seront transportées dans le dos des femmes, ou attachées à leur cou. Les poupées de bois (biiga), sculptées dans leur temps libre par les forgerons du Burkina Faso, sont offertes aux fillettes, comme aux garçons, par leurs parents.
