Absolute Rarity! Balblair Vintage 2006 Cask No. 77 bottled 2020 – 0.7L incl. Display Box

Absolute rarity, since production of the vintage whiskies has ended. In 2019 the distillery introduced a new core range that replaced the previously vintage-only releases. Therefore, this bottling is increasingly sought after by collectors and whisky enthusiasts.

Description:

Tasting Notes (La Maison du Whisky):

Appearance: Topaz with copper highlights.

Nose: Fresh, lively. Herbal (cut hay) and floral (lavender, tuberose), the first impression is also very malty (porridge). Dried apricots, nuts, and juicy oranges underline the maturation in sherry casks. A fine touch of licorice accompanies sweet spices (cinnamon, ginger) and dried fruits (cashews, almonds). The aromatic palette exudes a deep harmony.

Palate: Delicate, nuanced. Delicious, juicy on the attack. Reminiscent of marmalade, rhubarb pie, or strawberry jam, it transports the taster to a particularly blooming tertiary register. The palate is intoxicating, floral (orris root, clove), finely spiced (saffron), and powdery (cocoa, grated ginger). The finish is balsamic (pine, thuja).

Overall: Long, airy. With incredible delicacy, the beginning of the finale further elevates the flavor. Bourbon vanilla, pistachios, and verbena coat the palate. The aftertaste is warm and fresh, empyreumatic (wax, beeswax, Russian leather), and minty. On the retro-olfaction, enlivened by citrus zest, malted barley triumphantly returns. Very complex, the empty glass resonates in harmony between nose and palate.

History:
Founded in 1790 by John Ross, Balblair is the second-oldest distillery still in operation. The current facility dates back to 1872, built by Alexander Ross. In 1894 the distillery was sold to Alexander Cowan. From 1915 to 1947 it remained closed. The new owner, Robert Cumming (who later also owned Pulteney), expanded the distillery. In 1970 he sold it to Hiram Walker, later part of Allied Distillers / Allied Domecq. In 1996 production stopped once again until Inver House Distillers Ltd. (owners of Pulteney, Speyburn, Knockdhu, and Balmenach) acquired it. Whisky production resumed in May 1997.
