Medieval, Crusaders Era Silver Cross pendant, Saint Peter (No Reserve Price)

Please note: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. Medieval Crusaders era, silver alloy Cross of Saint Peter pendant with linear decoration, circle-dot in the centre and complete with integral suspension loop. The cross will be delivered on a leather jewellery cord, suitable for modern wear. Size: ± 28 x 18,7 mm Condition: good solid condition, complete, wearable on modern jewellery cord. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher. CROSS OF SAINT PETER: this type of cross with the crossbeam placed near the foot is associated with Saint Peter because of the tradition that he was crucified head down (crux inversa in Latin). During the first centuries AD, Christian symbols were worshipped and worn in secret. After Christianity was adopted as an official religion (380 AD) the cross became a prominent symbol. It provided comfort and piece in times of troubles, particularly during the Crusades and during the many pandemics that swept over Europe. To the present day Christians wear crosses and sacred pendants close to their hearts as tangible signs of their faith and Gods presence in their lives.
