Antique Wooden Duck Decoy – Early 20th Century – No Reserve - in excellent vintage condition

A charming and authentic antique duck decoy, hand-carved from wood and hollow on the inside. Originally crafted as a working decoy for hunting, today these pieces are valued as true folk art collectibles with great decorative appeal.

Period: Early 20th century (app 1900-1910)
Material: Hollow carved wood, hand-painted
Original glass eyes.
Dimensions: Length 38 cm × Height 15 cm
Weight: approx. 350 g
The head of the duck can be turned.

Condition: Original condition with beautiful aged patina. One small restoration to the beak. Paint wear and traces of use consistent with age and purpose. No major cracks or structural damage.
This decoy shows fine craftsmanship with a detailed carved head, painted eye, and traces of the original feather pattern still visible on the body. Its naturally aged surface gives it wonderful authenticity and character.

Provenance: From the private collection of the owner of a traditional Dutch eendenkooi (duck decoy pond).

Background:
An eendenkooi is a typical Dutch invention; a great method for catching wild ducks, developed in the 16th century and used both for food supply and research. These ponds were equipped with carefully trained decoy ducks and wooden or live lures to attract wild birds. Today, preserved eendenkooien are considered important cultural heritage in the Netherlands.

Highly collectible among enthusiasts of folk art, Americana, hunting memorabilia, and rustic interiors. A true eye-catcher and conversation starter.
