A large part of a Roman lead ship´s anchor, measuring circa 43cm in length, mounted on a wooden base with annotated brass plaque for a total length of 47cm and weight of 6.5kg. French Meditteranean seabed find from the 1960s. Estimated age: Probably 3rd century BCE to circa 3rd century CE, when the use of lead fixtures on the wooden anchors was common Roman maritime practice. Condition: Broken, corroded, but still an interesting piece of maritime history. This lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered and insured mail.
