Hima Milk Pot with Woven Lid – Uganda, Mid-20th Century
Origin: Hima, Uganda
Materials: Wood, basketry lid

Provenance: Collected in situ by the owner in the 1990s
Presumed age: Mid-20th century

An exceptional Hima milk pot, remarkable for its refinement and elegant proportions. Traditionally used for transporting and storing milk, such vessels are emblematic of the pastoral culture of the Hima people of Uganda, with comparable examples found among the Tutsi of Rwanda.

This example stands out for the harmony of its form, perfectly carved with symmetry and grace. The wood surface shows a superb, silky patina, the result of long and careful use. It is crowned with a finely woven basketry lid, adding both delicacy and authenticity to the piece.

Very good condition, with a rich patina of use enhancing its presence and character.
