A.R. Penck (1939-2017)
Der deutsche Maler, Bildhauer, Musiker und Schriftsteller A.R. Penck, mit bürgerlichem Namen Ralf Winkler, wurde 1939 in Dresden geboren und war im geteilten Deutschland zunächst in Ost-Berlin tätig. Pencks Bilder sind von der prähistorischen Kunst inspiriert und zeichnen sich durch die Verwendung von bildsprachlichen Elementen wie Strichmännchen, Zeichen und Symbolen aus.

Penck gilt auch als Vater der "Neuen Wilden", einer Bewegung der frühen 1980er Jahre mit einer ironischen und provokativen Ästhetik.

Der mehrfache Documenta-Teilnehmer wurde mit vielen Kunstpreisen ausgezeichnet und ist in vielen bedeutenden Sammlungen auf der ganzen Welt vertreten, darunter das Museum of Modern Art in New York und das Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
