Antique Porcelain Dessert Set – Hand-Gilded with Romantic Scenes (13 pieces)

This elegant dessert service consists of 12 round plates (Ø 15.5 cm) and one oval serving dish (34 x 22.5 cm). All pieces are in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, or restorations – very rare for sets of this age.

Origin & Period:
The style and craftsmanship suggest a European origin, most likely Germany (Bavaria), France (Limoges), or Austria/Bohemia, where richly decorated porcelain of this type was highly fashionable.
Estimated production period: late 19th century to early 20th century (circa 1900–1940).

Material & Techniques:

Fine white porcelain, glazed.

Central medallions with finely detailed romantic scenes depicting 18th-century ladies in landscapes. These images were created using transfer printing with delicate hand-coloured finishes.

Extensive gilding: Raised and tooled gold decoration, applied both by transfer and by hand, in ornate scrollwork and floral motifs surrounding the medallions.

The scalloped rims are richly adorned with embossed gilt patterns, typical of Rococo Revival porcelain.

Condition:

All 13 pieces are preserved in perfect condition.

No structural damage, no visible wear to the porcelain.

The gilding and painted scenes remain vivid and bright.

Collectability:
This is a fine example of Rococo Revival / Romantic style porcelain, made for display and refined table presentation. Complete sets in such condition are highly sought after by collectors of decorative European porcelain.

This set is designed in the Rococo Revival style, popular in Central Europe between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The pieces feature romantic 18th-century courtly scenes framed by lavish hand-applied gilding and ornate floral motifs, a decorative language that echoes the elegance of the Rococo period. Unlike Art Nouveau’s flowing natural forms, this style embraces a symmetric, opulent and aristocratic aesthetic, typical of Bohemian and Austrian porcelain production of the period.
