Daniel Arsham - Daniel Arsham - 2012

DANIEL ARSHAM - PERROTIN MONOGRAPH Published by Perrotin, 2012 Bilingual English/Chinese 21,3 x 27,7 cm 185 pages Hardcover In good condition. Minor traces of usage and handling. No major damages. See photos for more details. Limited edition monograph by Daniel Arsham for Gallery Perrotin. Daniel Arsham’s uchronic aesthetics revolves around his concept of fictional archaeology. Working in sculpture, architecture, drawing and film, he creates and crystallizes ambiguous in-between spaces or situations, and further stages what he refers to as future relics of the present. They are eroded casts of modern artifacts and contemporary human figures, which he expertly makes out of some geological material such as sand, selenite or volcanic ash for them to appear as if they had just been unearthed after being buried for ages. Always iconic, most of the objects that he turns into stone refer to the late 20th century or millennial era, when technological obsolescence unprecedentedly accelerated along with the digital dematerialization of our world. While the present, the future and the past poetically collide in his haunted yet playful visions between romanticism and pop art, Daniel Arsham also experiments with the timelessness of certain symbols and gestures across cultures. Daniel Arsham is a contemporary artist based in New York City who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1980. He is known for his multidisciplinary approach to art, which combines elements of sculpture, architecture, and performance to create striking and thought-provoking works that challenge our perceptions of time, history, and material culture. Arsham began his artistic career as a young artist and co-founder of the design and architecture firm Snarkitecture in 2005, where he collaborated with a range of clients and artists on various design and architectural projects such as The Weeknd, Dior, Porsche, Rimowa, Adidas, Tiffany Co, Hublot and many others, He later established his own artistic practice and began exhibiting his work in galleries and museums around the world.
