Purchased: 2023

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated)

History: A 160 g sample was purchased with a batch of ordinary chondrites by Salek Mrabih (Dominions Meteorites) from a Saharawi meteorite dealer in 2023.

Physical characteristics: The exterior of the sample is gray and brownish in color and partially coated with a weathered fusion crust. The cut face shows a brecciated interior composed of mineral fragments, FeNi metal grains and FeS.

Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample shows a cataclastic texture composed of anhedral mineral exsolved pyroxenes, plagioclase and FeNi metal and FeS grains. Additional minerals are: a silica polymorph, apatite, troilite, chromite, ilmenite and FeNi metal.

Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) low-Ca pyroxene (Fs9.5±1.0Wo2.4±0.7, Fe/Mn=29.8±0.6, Mg#=39.1±0.7, n=9); pigeonite (Fs58.2Wo5.1, Fe/Mn=28.4, Mg#=38.7, n=1); high-Ca pyroxene (Fs26.5±1.8Wo44.3±2.4, Fe/Mn=28.7±1.0, n=10); plagioclase (An94.0±0.8Or0.2±0.3, n=8).

Classification: Writeup Classification: HED achondrite (eucrite breccia) Based on grainsize of lithic clasts, texture and mineral compositions, sample is a poorly equilibrated eucrite breccia.

Specimens: Salek Mrabih (Dominions Meteorites) holds the main mass. A polished mount and two slices with a total known weight of 20.1 g are on deposit at App.
