Viking Era Bronze Odin's Cross Amulet - 39 mm (No Reserve Price)

Culture: Viking Date: c. 8th–9th century CE Material: Bronze Dimensions: Diameter 39 mm Condition: Intact with heavy green patina and minor surface wear. This is a beautiful bronze Viking Odin's Cross. A cast bronze ring with circular frame enclosing a cross-like structure, forming three curved openwork sections around a central roundel. The surface shows a rich green patina with some encrustation from age. Such a symbol is sometimes called sun cross or solar cross. Actually it was not a symbol for the sun at all, but represents a wheel. That is a symbol for the Viking God Odin who drives his chariot through the sky pulled by white horses. Odin is one of the most important Viking Gods. He is associated with wisdom, healing and victory. You can actually wear this piece of jewelry, a modern chain is included.
