Medieval Ceramic Devil Face Bead
Circa 12th-14th century AD
This striking ceramic devil-mask bead is barrel-shaped with a flat underside and a wide, vertical perforation. The principal face shows arched brows, deep-set lentoid eyes, a broad nose, and a compressed mouth framed by pronounced cheek folds and short incised strokes at the temples. The reverse features a second, softer visage with small drilled eyes, a short nose, and a compact mouth set within rounded cheeks.
Dimensions: 2cm x 1,5cm x 1,5cm
Provenance: Private European Collection; formerly acquired from old UK and European collection formed since the 1970s.
