"Tomatsu Shomei and Okinawa: A Love Letter to the Sun" is a photo collection by Tomatsu Shomei, one of Japan's leading postwar documentary photographers.
Always highly conscious of issues and possessing a spirit of inquiry, Tomatsu Shomei, one of Japan's leading postwar documentary photographers, has used Nagasaki and Okinawa as his subjects to capture the true nature of Japan and the Japanese people.
His numerous masterpieces, including "11:02 NAGASAKI," "Oh! Shinjuku," "Japan," "I Am King," and "Pencil of the Sun," have been exhibited in numerous locations in the United States and Europe, earning him worldwide acclaim.
This book was published for an exhibition held at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum in 2011, the year before Tomatsu's death. It features 240 stunning black-and-white and color photographs of Okinawa taken over a period of more than 40 years, beginning in 1969.
Includes text by the photographer himself, Nakazato, Ishikawa Mao, Gozo Yoshimasa, Ishikawa Naoki, and others.
