Vanité – Memento Mori, Figure de la Mort à la Faux, XIXe siècle 

Sculpture singulière figurant la Mort, représentée en squelette enveloppé d’un suaire et tenant sa faux.

 Le crâne, les mains, les pieds et la lame de la faux sont réalisés en os, contrastant avec le drapé sculpté dans le bois et rehaussé d’une polychromie sombre. Cette statuett s’inscrit dans la tradition des vanités et des memento mori, rappelant la fragilité de la vie et l’inéluctabilité de la mort. 
Véritable objet de méditation, elle prolonge l’héritage iconographique baroque et romantique qui nourrit au XIXe siècle un goût prononcé pour le macabre et la symbolique de la finitude. Reposant sur une base moulurée en bois.

État : Usures et petites fentes d’usage, ensemble stable et complet. Curiosité de cabinet, à la croisée de l’art religieux et philosophique, témoignage fort de la tradition du memento mori.
