Gerhard Richter is one of today's most sought-after artists. Between figuration and abstraction, his work is extensive and varied, and highly regarded by critics. In fact, he is considered the “Picasso of the 21st century” (according to The Guardian).

In Düsseldorf in 1967, he began his photo-paintings inspired by the Fluxus movement, going a step further than Warhol in terms of appropriating media iconography. These images are out of focus, but gain sharpness in terms of concept and were described as “capitalist realism”.

In the 1970s, he began his abstract period, drawing on Pollock to use smudges and blurred contours to alter the image of his paintings, creating works with great psychic and physical power.
