Ancient Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Rabbit Figure - with Thermoluminescence Test! Circa 202 BC - AD 220 This painted pottery figure of a recumbent rabbit is modelled in a crouching posture with forelegs tucked under the body and hind legs positioned to the sides. The elongated ears are laid back, while the facial features, including rounded eyes and a prominent nose, are rendered in low relief. Traces of red pigment remain across the surface, particularly on the snout and ears. This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot. Mingqi, "spirit objects" are small terracotta statues usually depicting court ladies, servants, dancers, and musicians - both men and women, but also horses, other domestic animals, mystical beasts and miniature architectural models of houses, farms, granaries. These items were buried together with deceased people in graves to serve them in the afterlife. Size: L:155mm / W:270mm ; 2.66kg Provenance: Private European Collection; formerly acquired from old UK and European collection formed since the 1970s.
