Bellissima scultura raffigurante la testa dell'imperatore Marco Aurelio del secondo secolo dopo Cristo. Opera realizzata con antiche tecniche scultoree in polvere di marmo carrara.
L'opera Trovata nell’antica città romana di Tarraco, (Tarragona oggi in spagna ) Questa testa rappresenta l’imperatore e filosofo Marcus Aurelius. Successore di Antoninus Pius, culmina con la cosiddetta età d’oro dell’Impero romano, in carica tra gli anni 161-180 D.c. La sua formazione filosofica storica gli permise di confrontarsi con un regno difficile, contrassegnata da invasioni, epidemie e tradimenti dei suoi generali. Ha effettuato le riforme amministrative a beneficio dei settori più bisognosi della società. Durante le dure campagne militari, scrisse la sua opera filosofica in greco “Meditazioni”.
Il pezzo originale è conservato al Museo nazionale archeologico di Tarragona, in spagna, nell'antichità città romana.
