Featured is the African continent, with the indication of British, Dutch, French, Spanish and Portuguese possessions, distinguished by colour bordering. This status is a decade before the Berlin conference, which initiated the "Scramble for Africa" - major colonization of Africa. This German map was updated by the German/British cartographer Ludwig Ravenstein (1838-1915) after Major Radefeld, and published in 1873, representing a very detailed and ACCURATE map of the continent at that period. Occasional very faint and hardly visible age stains. Steel-engraving with original outline hand-colouring. Blank verso with a few scattered very faint foxing stains. Otherwise very good.
