《 Tadao Ando Profile 》 Born in Osaka in 1941. After travelling around the world, he studied architecture on his own and established the Tadao Ando Architect & Associates in 1969. He has served as a visiting professor at Yale University, Columbia University, Harvard University, and other institutions, and was appointed professor at the University of Tokyo in 1997 and professor emeritus at the same university in 2003. He has numerous works to his credit. Notable works include ‘Sumiyoshi Row House,’ ‘Japan Pavilion at the Seville Expo,’ ‘Church of the Light,’ ‘Osaka Prefectural Asuka Museum of Art,’ ‘Awaji Dream Stage,’ ‘Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art,’ and ‘Fort Worth Modern Art Museum.’ He received the Japan Institute of Architects Award in 1979 for ‘Sumiyoshi Row House’ and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal in 2002. He was awarded the Order of Culture in 2010. His publications include ‘Speaking of Architecture’ and ‘The Alliance of Words’ (both published by the University of Tokyo Press), ‘Architect Tadao Ando’ and ‘Le Corbusier: The Courageous House’ (both published by Shinchosha).
